What can you tell us about your new release, Dark Corners?
Dark Corners is a story about an army war vet whose struggles with PTSD taking over his life. David Cavello is no longer in uniform, but the memories of combat still haunt his every waking moment. Driven to protect and serve, he accepts an undercover job he has to keep hidden from everyone. But David’s mission goes against orders the second he makes contact with gorgeous and spirited Maygen Whitney. The intense attraction he feels for Maygen drives him crazy—almost as crazy as he feels about hiding information from her.
After growing up with an overprotective father, Maygen feels like she’s finally claiming her independence. Sure, she’s been lonely, but David seems to make all her dreams come deliciously true—until the sting of betrayal sends her world spiraling. Now Maygen’s caught in a tragic web of lies, leaving her more vulnerable than ever to an enemy hidden in the shadows. But when Maygen most needs a hero, David leaps into action—intent on doing whatever it takes to save the woman he loves.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I love reading romance and watching romantic movies of all types. When I started writing my first book Back-Up, it was based on a dream I had. The desire to write my own version of a perfect romance began as a project that has now turned into a career.
Which books would we be surprised to find on your shelves?
I’m not sure my shelves hold any surprises since 99% of the books I own are indeed romances.
What’s your spirit animal? (it doesn’t have to be an animal)
A Golden Retriever puppy.
If you had to pick one place to vacation for the rest of your life, where would you choose?
Any beach, anywhere. We do live very close to the beach and are fortunate enough to spend our summers there.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
When starting my writing career I reached out to SC Stephens. She was super sweet and gave me some very sound advice that helped me in so many ways. The best thing she said to me, which I remind myself of daily, is that it’s a marathon and not a sprint. I stay true to my characters and my writing style, and hope with time more and more will discover my books and enjoy my works.
What scene in Dark Corners was your favorite to write?
David and Maygen’s first kiss. It wasn’t in a romantic location, it didn’t have flowers and candlelight, yet it was super hot.
“Maygen Whitney, may I kiss you?”
At my winded, “Yes,” he shifted his eyes down to my mouth before bending to press his work-of-art lips against mine. Those lethal lips and his hold held me prisoner to the most perfect kiss I’ve ever had. My hands were sandwiched between his firm chest and my heaving breasts, and all I could do was grip the wool fabric of his coat beneath my fingers, holding on for dear life. With his lips, he was taking me on an exhilarating ride that I never wanted to end. It wasn’t choppy, as some kisses are. It was fluent and living, one long endless . . .Sigh.
“Do that again,” he said against my lips.
“Do what?”
“Sigh into my mouth. Do it again.”
The second time his lips met mine, his eyes remained opened, willing mine to do the same. With our mouths attached, he opened his and drew in my sigh. Holding it deep in his lungs, he slowly released one of his own into my awaiting body. Before I could catch my breath he skimmed his tongue along the top of mine, coaxing it out, demanding it to follow. Once I did, he latched on to gently suck it until my knees almost buckled.
When we broke for air, he looked as dazed as I felt.
He pressed his forehead against mine, and with his eyes closed said, “Maygen, I think you should go inside.”
“Okay.”
Even after his request, it still took a few seconds for him to release me. He stepped away and waited for me to enter the foyer of my building. Once inside, I watched as he lifted the collar of his peacoat, shoved his hands deep into his pockets, and walked away. He never asked for my number, or hinted he’d see me again.
