What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write A Royal Pain?
I’ve always been fascinated by the way the media can influence how we feel about people and events. Once they determine someone is a hero, we expect them to be nothing but heroic, but that sometimes is not the case. I wanted to create this serious undertone as part of something light-hearted and funny, and suddenly my main character Chloe Burke was born!
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of A Royal Pain, what would they be?
I think for Chloe it would have to something like “Made You Look” by Meghan Traitor.
For Nico it would need to be something much darker! Perhaps “Take Me to Church” by Hozier.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love reading many different genres, but romance (no pun intended) has my heart. It’s what I love to read, and it’s also what I love to write.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
I just finished “Song of Achilles” by Madeline Miller (WOW), and I’m planning to start “Verity” by Colleen Hoover.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
My favorite scene is Chloe and Nico’s first kiss. There was something so tender and sweet about it, and it was at a point in the book when for the first time in a long time, Chloe finally had hope things would be getting better in her own life soon.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
No cats on laps, but I do have an 80 lb Labrador on my feet! His name is Capone, and he’s hilarious. He has his own Facebook page (Capone the Wonder Dog), and he has more fans than I do!
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
You don’t know what someone else is going through, and it never hurts to be kind.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I hope the book makes them smile. I write happy books. I want to make my readers happy. If I’ve accomplished that, what more could I ask for?
