What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Flame & Shadow?
I got to the point where writing felt formulaic and it was sucking the life out of my projects. This book was me letting loose and recapturing the joy of writing.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Flame & Shadow, what would they be?
Three Day’s Grace, You against Me, and Burn with Me by Lilith Czar. Not telling you who’s who.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Science Fiction and Fantasy everything. I’m also a huge fan of Dark Romance, and yeah, I write all of the above.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
The latest Kim Harrison and Ilona Andrews installments along with about seventy others I keep telling myself I’ll get to.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I really loved writing the swamp squid scene because it was just so ridiculous, and anything with Envy and Morgana. The frenemy factor is fierce.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I can’t write at a desk. I have to be sitting somewhere soft with my feet up. Cat is optional, although he doesn’t think so.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
To do what scares you. 90% of the time all that fear comes down to the not knowing— So go find out!
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I really hope it makes them laugh. It was a fun book to write, and I wanted it to be just as fun to read.
