What can you tell us about your new release, Reboot?
This is a tale about a man who chooses to leave it all behind and start over. My main character experiences the full range of emotions, from depression to love. I’d bet more than one reader could associate with this literary roller coaster as all of us, at one time or another, likely faced the tough decision to go or stay.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
My wife, Ann. I have always written short stories and was first published in my twenties. But then life got in the way and I put my writing dreams aside until nine years ago when I retired from being a professional engineer. The very next day, I began writing. The novel, Reboot, was just an idea back then but thanks to the encouragement and support provided by my bride, it became a reality. Thank you, Ann!
What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?
In no particular order: Timeline by Crichton, The Harry Potter series by Rowling, A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson, Lonesome Dove by McMurtry, Murder on the Orient Express by Christie.
Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
J.K.Rowling. First, I’d love to discuss the outline she had to create to compose such a complex tale. Next, I’d like to pick her brain regarding overcoming obstacles she must have encountered while writing the epic series.
What’s your favorite thing about writing?
Telling stories of course! Once I get rolling, I can’t wait to jump out of bed and continue the tale I’ve started. For me, it’s a real kick.
What is a typical day like for you?
Typical day? I wish I had one! From a broad perspective, my somewhat typical day starts after the second cup of coffee and concludes when my characters call it quits for the day. But mostly. I write in fits and starts, and like the old reliable lawnmower, once I get started, I keep plugging away until it’s done.
What scene in Reboot was your favorite to write?
Here’s a bit of a spoiler alert: Rob’s fishing pal, Mike.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Yes. When it comes to writing, I believe we all have a story to tell. Just write it. There’s no such thing as a bad first draft. Living advice? Don’t waste a single day, and make sure those people you love know it.
