Interview with C.J. Brohn, Author of Social Security In A Nutshell

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Social Security In A Nutshell?

As I was looking into Social Security decisions for my wife and I, some confusion remained even after reading a few books and navigating the Social Security website. With a background in teaching, where I always seek to take complicated issues and make them more simple, I decided to do the same with this topic as it was essential for me to do research for my own decisions.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Social Security In A Nutshell, what would they be?

“Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

John Grisham!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Gene Getz, “The Measure of a Man”; Sam & Debbie Wood, “What Is Marriage?”; John Grisham, “Framed”; Tamara Miller, “Into the Fall”; Grant Howard, “Surfing the Waves of Change”

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Chapter 1, in a Nutshell, where I condensed much information into bullet points for quicker understanding.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I don’t smoke, but love to flick my Zippo lighter on and off, and on and off, and smell the unique aroma of Zippo lighters!

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Do the best I can with what I have and try to help others along the path.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Don’t wait to put some of these principles into motion, especially saving in a Roth IRA, and taking advantage of an HSA account.
