Interview with C.J. Thomas, author of This is Love

What can you tell us about your new release, This is Love?

This is love, is the first in my brand-new High-Stakes Billionaire series. It follows two young individuals on their path to love while figuring out the work-life balance we all struggle with in today’s hyper-competitive world. And because it’s a family saga, there is lots of drama and tons of secrets revealed along the way. Those who are familiar with my writing will know that my stories don’t come without a few good twists, and this story is no different. Though if you’ve read my popular serial A Kelly Black Affair, This is Love, is much mellower—though enthralling romantic suspense. Which is great, both to write as well as it is to read.

What’s the last book you read?

James Patterson second chance. I love his pacing and can’t help but to get sucked in to the story.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I just kind of fell into it. And I’m sure glad I did. Because I’m having a hell of a lot of fun.

What fictional literary world would you most like to visit?

Hogwarts, Harry Potter series.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

I love the surprises. Nothing is ever as it seems. And though I’m a planner, my characters are always ready to reveal more of who they are as the story progresses. It’s never boring when at the office.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Start early. Stretch. Get the kids clothed and fed, then a big breakfast and coffee before heading into the office. To warm up, I read the previous day’s work first, then I’m pounding away my next 3,000-6,000 words and don’t leave until I’m done. And I do that five or six days a week.

What scene in This is Love was your favorite to write?

When Nolan takes Sophia to the mountain overlook. The snowcapped peaks and clear blue skies. The spirit of the West. It’s absolutely dreamy and there is nothing more magical than the Colorado Rocky Mountains. And since it’s the state I’m originally from, writing this story brought back tons of wonderful memories.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Don’t worry be happy.
