Interview with Cameron Drake, author of Rogue Prince
07 Jan 2019
What can you tell us about your new release,Rogue Prince?
Rogue Prince is the third book in the Vampire Princess series, and the story continues to get more exciting. Sasha has to make diplomatic overtures to some very old, very wealthy Vampires. Her powers also continue to evolve as she trains to become strong for the coming war. The relationship between Sasha and her two love interests gets extremely complicated due to a blood bond, established in book 2, Royally Cursed.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I’ve been a voracious reader since I was very young, and always made up my own stories in my head. It was only a matter of time until I started writing them down and luckily for me, people want to read them!
What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?
Oh this is a tough one! Sometimes I read a book and while i can acknowledge that it’s extremely well written, it doesn’t always fill that need for adventure or romance I am looking for. So here are five of the books I’ve enjoyed most, in no particular order!
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah Maas
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
Am I limited to only one? I think it would have to be George RR Martin, because his mind is fascinating! I’m not sure he would answer any questions, though! I’ve read that he doesn’t like that. Maybe I’d invite someone else to help soften him up.
What’s your favorite thing about writing?
Starting a project is my favorite without question. The idea is so fresh and shiny and new, it’s like diving into a pool filled with possibilities. But I pretty much love everything about writing, even waking up in the middle of the night with an idea you just have to jot down, or spending an hour typing away while the rest of the world sleeps. I love interacting with the readers too, though I was really shy at first. I have a Facebook group called Cameron Drake’s Owlettes and they make me smile on a daily basis. I even found fan art on Instagram! I nearly swooned when I saw that.
What is a typical day like for you?
I start out with writing. Well, I brush my teeth first. But I make sure I write for a quick bit before I start my day. You can get distracted by life and trivial things like food and housecleaning otherwise. And I sneak back to my writing corner frequently, even during the busiest of ‘real life’ days.
What scene in Rogue Prince was your favorite to write?
I have to say, I love watching my characters bicker. The back and forth between Sasha and Maxim is breakneck, witty and brimming with romantic tension.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
I do not, but I guess this is a good time to come up with one! Probably something along the lines of ‘give everything your absolute best and be kind.’ Because what else can we really do?
