Interview with Charles Gilbert, Author of Wrapped in Gold

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Wrapped in Gold?

The story behind the story is that I spent most of my life looking for answers in the wrong places, blaming other people and my circumstances for my own pain and suffering, when really it was me all along who was responsible for those feelings. The inspiration behind writing the book was to put my story out there for the world so that people could identify with where I came from and the struggles I’ve been through, and then hopefully inspire them with ways to live a better life and ultimately treat people better.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Wrapped in Gold, what would they be?

“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Self-help, self-motivation and true stories about overcoming adversity and struggle.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

A Life in Parts – Bryan Cranston

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The opening scene when I got in serious trouble for the first time. It set the tone for the book, and that day shaped my life forever.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Coffee, peace and quiet.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Treat others how you want to be treated, plain and simple.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Everybody is loved and needed, and it’s never to late for anyone to change their life or outlook on life.
