Tell us a little bit about your new release, Bad for Me.
It is a contemporary romance novel between two people that believe that love is an illusion. It was one of the first few works that I had written on Wattpad and since I had wrote it years ago, I was quite surprised that it was picked up by Blvnp Incorporated but nonetheless, it is a really exciting opportunity.
Which book from your childhood or teenage years has stuck with you as an adult?
I have always read a wide range of genres, from romance to fantasy to action books. Books by Roald Dahl made my childhood really interesting and I remember reading Matilda and the BFG countless times. I also loved the classics like Black Beauty by Anna Sewell, not to mention Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. I also loved the Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling and all books by Matthew Reilly.
What books are currently on your night stand?
Currently, I am reading Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I haven’t finished it yet but it’s a really interesting read. I was hooked from the first few chapters.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I think that the authors mentioned earlier are the ones who really inspired me to write. The very idea that stringing words together can impact and motivate someone astounds me. Up until this year, writing was just a hobby for me. It was like a break from my day to day activities, like an escape.
Do you listen to anything while you write? If so, what’s your audio of choice?
As strange as it may be, I listen to soundtracks from films or musicals like The Phantom of the Opera or Les Misérables. The pieces really help me to focus and give me inspiration.
What is a typical day like for you?
Attending university, juggling time with my family and friends, and attempting to fit in writing whenever I can.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I’ve been given was from a friend that had told me that if you want something bad enough you have to work hard for it if not, it’s not really worth it. That friend has really encouraged and supported me in my life since we were children and that statement has always stayed with me.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
A quote – I think – that I really use in my life is by Thomas Edison: “Success is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.”
