What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Marta (Vol I)?
While I always pictured myself writing, I never felt I had what it took. This book started as journals for my therapist, who thought I had an interesting story to tell. For years I went back and forth over the idea of actually putting them together in a book. Never really sure if people would want to read about my life as a homeless youth. One day I got the courage to send a few chapters to an editor friend of mine who liked the way I described my journey and the insight put into life in NYC during that time. It gave me the courage to go forward with this book, and start my writing journey.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Marta (Vol I), what would they be?
“Thunder” by Imagine Dragons.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I am mostly into horror fiction and real crime stories. While I have just started getting serious about writing, other than this series I have only written short stories of horror fiction which I hope to turn into a book of short stories.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
I am rereading the Good Earth, a favorite of mine, but I also just picked up the new Stephen King book “You Like it Darker”. I have always been a fan of his works.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I would say the opening scene, it is a great description of my relationship with Marta, and sets a tone for the rest of Vol. I.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
My service dog “Grunt” likes to lay on my feet when I sit at my desk. That warmth on my feet is very comforting and allows me to relax as I write my chapters.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
“Even ordinary life can be immortalized through art.” – Dave Rogers
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
Life is not “It is what it is” life is what you make of it.
