What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Delicate Brushstrokes?
I’ve been fascinated with the Renaissance era since I was young, and I read Irving Stone’s The Agony and the Ecstasy multiple times. When I later became a writer and read Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier, the idea for this story came to me and I couldn’t let it go. After years of research, the time was finally right to put the story to paper.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I wouldn’t say I have a favorite genre since I enjoy reading several types of books, but my top three are Historical Fiction, Women’s Fiction, and Fantasy.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
The Bookstore on the Beach by Brenda Novak, Spellbreaker by Charlie N. Holmberg, and One Day In Budapest by JF Penn.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The answer to that question would be a spoiler since it happens later in the book…
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I can’t write unless I have instrumental music related to the genre I’m writing in, playing in the background. For this series, it’s lute and guitar music or the soundtrack from MEDICI, the Netflix original series.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
No matter our trials, tragedies or trials, we can choose happiness!
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
We all have the tools we need to overcome our trials and tragedies. We just need to believe in ourselves and tap into that inner superhero, whether we lived during the Renaissance or today!
