What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Last Masterpiece: The Master’s Protégé Trilogy Book III?
I’ve been fascinated with the Renaissance era since I was young, and I read Irving Stone’s The Agony and the Ecstasy multiple times. When I later became a writer and read Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier, the idea for this story came to me and I couldn’t let it go. After years of research, it was finally time to bring the story to life.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I wouldn’t say I have a favorite genre since I enjoy reading several types of books, but my top three are Historical Fiction, Suspenseful Women’s Fiction, and Sci-if/Fantasy. I love writing everything!
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
The Poison Keeper by Deborah Swift, Keeper of Enchanted Rooms by Charlie N. Holmberg, and The Venice Sketchbook by Rhys Bowen.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
Tricky question since the answer would be a major spoiler, but my second favorite scene to write was the Epilogue. I actually wrote it long before I started writing The Last Masterpiece. I knew how this story would end from the beginning.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
Music is a vital part of my writing process, maybe because I’m also a musician. Once I turn on my background ambience music, my creative juices start flowing and my brain kicks into writer mode. It’s pretty cool, actually, and a huge help!
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Yes, I believe we all have a hidden superhero just waiting to be unleashed! No one is ordinary. We all have the tools we need to overcome our trials and tragedies. We just need to believe in ourselves and tap into that inner superhero to help make the world better for everyone!
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I suppose the key take away is that even after tragedy and loss, or in difficult circumstances, it’s possible to not only recover, but thrive. Life’s never been easy or fair, but humans are resilient beings. No matter how many times we’re knocked down, we can always come back stronger than before. We don’t have to allow our circumstances defeat us. I believe that message is more important today than ever!
