Interview with Emerson Rose, author of The Cowboy’s Nanny

What can you tell us about your new release, The Cowboy’s Nanny?

The Cowboy’s Nanny is the second in a contemporary western romance duo, the first being The Cowboy’s Virgin. The stories both take place in Montana and can be read separately as stand alone stories or together as they have reoccurring characters.

The Cowboy’s Nanny is a love story about a gorgeous billionaire rancher named Ash Pride who has serious abandonment issues. He’s more interested in casual one-night stand relationships, but he unexpectedly finds love, thanks to his wild four-year-old son Cannon.

What, or who inspired you to become an author?

I never wanted to be a writer. I had trouble coming up with something clever to say on a birthday card let alone writing an entire novel and writing nursing papers in college was like pulling teeth. Five years ago I was a full-time mommy and a full-time nurse. I had been an avid reader as a child and teenager, but the stresses of life and five children kept me from picking up a good book for a long time. When my pediatrician recommended Jodi Ellen Malpas’s This Man trilogy I was hooked on erotic romance, romance, contemporary romance, anything I could get my hands on. I was also curious about her as an author and read her bio on how she came to be so successful. When I found out she had self-published her books, I thought, maybe I can do it too? One of my co-workers at the hospital, and fellow smut reader encouraged me to go for it, and I wrote, and self-published my first erotic romance trilogy. Now eleven books later I am a published author with Prism Heart Press living a life I never imagined I’d be living.

What fictional literary world would you most like to visit?

I read and write contemporary romance where events take place in the here and now. That being said, I’ve always thought it would be interesting to visit the Shire in Middle Earth from The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien. I don’t typically read high fantasy novels, but at the insistence of a friend I read this one and watched the movies. The Shire is beautiful, and the hobbits lived a simpler life than we do today, I think I might like that.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

This one is easy, character development. I could spend weeks flushing out my character’s personalities, likes, dislikes, fantasies, dreams and so on and so on. I have a thirty-question character interview that I like to fill out when I am coming up with my new characters. Sadly I don’t get to do as much of this as I used to due to the pace of which I currently write.

BAM! You’re a superhero, what’s your superpower?

My chosen superpower would be similar to Professor Charles Xavier from X-Men. He can control other’s minds with telepathy, memory manipulation, and illusion casting. I also like Rogue’s power to absorb other’s powers and Mystique who is a master shapeshifter. I’m an X-Men geek lol.

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

There are only two ways to spend a rainy day in my opinion. I’m either reading a good book or watching a movie with my kids.

What scene in The Cowboy’s Nanny was your favorite to write?

The scene where Stella meets Ash and his wild four-year-old son in the hotel lobby was a lot of fun. Writing child characters is a blast. I love their innocence and lack of tact. I also enjoy writing sex scenes, and Ash and Stella’s first encounter was scorching hot!

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Why, yes I do! I have signs all over my office that say, Do What You Love. I don’t think you can be an unhappy person in life if you’re doing what you love, and I love writing.
