Interview with Guney Sokullu, Author of The Shudder

06 Nov 2024

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Shudder?

This began as a screenplay, but I decided to bring it to life in written format. The book contains four distinct philosophical concepts woven throughout. While writing, my primary goal was to encode these messages for the readers.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love the dystopian genre, but aside from that, I’m an eager student of philosophy.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Homo Ludens (Johan Huizinga), Antifragile (Nassim Nicholas Taleb).

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The scene where Melanie, Sandra’s best friend, pays her a visit. That’s the key scene of the book.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I love to write in various libraries.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Happiness is temporary. However, you still can define goals to be happy.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

The wind will wind up ll our misery. This is a Koan.
