Interview with Jennifer Probst, Author of Unbreak My Heart

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Unbreak My Heart?

This story is chock full of all the things I love in a great romance so I decided to write my own! I’m addicted to Italian food and wine, Frank Sinatra, the opera, and come from a big Italian family. I’m also addicted to sexual tension in my romance novels, along with an alpha hero who needs to redeem himself to the heroine. Combining these elements and adding in a heartbreaking second chance love story with super steamy scenes? I had so much fun writing it!

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Unbreak My Heart, what would they be?

Insensitive by Jan Arden! This was the song that inspired the basic ideas of the book — about a woman who was falling hard for a man who didn’t seem to care. That was the seed that grew into Unbreak My Heart.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love psychological thriller and horror. I also love contemporary romance in all genres. To be honest, I read all over the map and make sure I always am trying to expand my boundaries with books.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Ignition Sequence by Joey W Hill, The Love of My Life by Rosie Walsh, The Guncle by Steven Rowley, Holly by Stephen King, and SO MANY MORE!

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I love the big dramatic scenes where the hero comes to terms with his mistakes and the heroine forgives him. It’s full of emotion and angst and it gets me every time so that was my favorite to write.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

No, I’m actually quite tame! I like to have a hot beverage at my side, and always play music – I create specific playlists for all of my books. Other than that, I can write anywhere.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Trade your expectations for appreciation and your whole life will change.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Love is never an easy straight path but there are endless possibilities for happiness and hope for the ones brave enough to leap.
