Interview with John Layne, Author of A Rude Reception (John Garrison Mysteries Book 1)

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write A Rude Reception (John Garrison Mysteries Book 1)?

My actual experience as a police officer & detective.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of A Rude Reception (John Garrison Mysteries Book 1), what would they be?

John Garrison: “6 ft.” by Jett Platt. Maria Fernandez: “Battle & Brawl” by Jett Platt.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

In addition to Westerns, I enjoy the contemporary suspense genre.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

“The Western Star” by Craig Johnson.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I enjoy writing action scenes. Probably the action scene near the end of the book.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Not really, but my dachshund usually lays in his bed next to me while I write in my office.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

There’s no substitute for discipline and integrity.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

The obstacles my characters overcome.
