What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Florist?
The story is an old one. Does the environment make the individual? What will a person do when immersed in a savage environment while stripped of all choices? Jack London’s Call of the Wild is a heavy influence on this book as is the the Count of Monte Cristo.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
It used the be fantasy until I read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The book blew me away. I’ve read crime ever since and write in the same genre.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
The Poet by Michael Connelly.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The sections on money laundering and safe cracking were my favorite. It’s tough to take a complex subject and try to convey it clearly to the reader. Hope I did ok…
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I love to write early in the morning.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
I’m a lot less critical of myself than I was as a younger writer. There is no roadmap to success in this game. Success is a happy accident. Educate yourself in this craft everyday and never tire of learning.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
Word of mouth is pivotal for any aspiring writer. If you like the body of work – please spread the word.
