What can you tell us about your new release, Waterfall Effect?
Waterfall Effect is a haunting romantic suspense with underlying themes of second chance romance, mental health issues, and forbidden love. The setting of the majority of the story is very much a character in itself, being set in Balsam Grove, a small and seemingly idyllic small town in the Appalachian Mountains. Readers are loving the angst that comes with a good slow burn romance and the philosophical undertones that play into the title of the story. So far, this seems to a favorite for my readers, and I couldn’t be more ecstatic about that.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
It’s funny. I’ve been getting this question a lot lately, and I always answer it the same. “Because I want to tell a story, no matter the form. Be it dancing, or video editing, or managing a graphic design crew at work.” But I thought about it again the other day while trying to find something to watch on Netflix and realized, no. I want to write stories/books because there are always instances where I’m looking for a particular type of story, and I can’t seem to find it. And then it clicked. That is exactly what I want to write. What doesn’t already exist.
What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?
That is ridiculously unfair. I’m going to list the first five that come to mind when I think of “favorite.” Remember Me, Sophie Kinsella – Bright Side, Kim Holden – Firefly Lane, Kristin Hannah – The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks – Gayle Forman, If I Stay
Who is your favorite couple from literature?
Allie and Noah from The Notebook. Call me a sucker, I don’t care. It’s a beautiful romance with all the elements I adore.
What’s your favorite thing about writing?
Writing for me is the most relaxing thing I could ever do. Probably because my best writing is written in solitude, social media distractions removed, and I’m completely in the mind-set of my story and characters. I find it incredibly easy to spend hours at a time researching all the elements of a story, whether that be human psyche or creating the world they live in. It’s therapeutic and the best food for my soul.
What’s on your writing desk?
Watermelon Perrier, which is a total accident because everyone knows I drink grapefruit Perrier when writing and editing. My printed manuscript for Waterfall Effect. My kitten, Chloe—yes, really! Haha. She loves to place her palm on my hands when I type. Thank you cards, left over swag from book signings, notepads, and pens. Oh, and a file with my tax documents in it, which is what I’ll be tackling next J.
What scene in Waterfall Effect was your favorite to write?
Usually, there’s a scene that sticks out as my favorite because it was one of the key scenes I thought of while plotting the story. Waterfall Effect was different because this book took plots of plotting and rewriting until I got it perfect. In the end, I think my favorite scene was an intense conversation between the hero and heroine regarding their separation for the past seven years and all the reasons why. Everything finally comes to a head, and the scene is jam-packed with intense emotion, sexual tension, and the beautiful landscape of Balsam Grove, North Carolina.
