Interview with Katie McGarry, author of Nowhere But Here

We are all about “taking risks and opening your heart”, so we were super excited to reach out to Katie McGarry about her new release, Nowhere But Here.

Tell us a little bit about your new release, Nowhere But Here.

The Thunder Road series follows teens who are raised in a motorcycle club. Nowhere But Here is about Emily, a seventeen year old girl, who is forced to spend the summer with her estranged biological father who is in a motorcycle club and it is about Oz, an eighteen year old whose dream is to belong to the motorcycle club, but when he meets Emily, he begins to question the path he has chosen for his life.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was very young, I wanted to be the lead in the musical Annie. I can’t sing and I can’t dance, so that was problematic. 🙂

What’s rocking your world this month?

The end of the school year! I have twelve year old twins and a ten year old and we are swamped in end of the year activities!

What’s the last book you read?

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon! It is amazing!

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

I enjoy writing on rainy days. I also love playing board games with my kids.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

For writing, the best advice I’ve received is that if I don’t hurt while I’m writing, then I’m not writing the right thing. The same can be applied if I’m writing something funny. If I’m not writing something that makes me laugh, then I’m not writing the right thing. The idea is that I must feel the emotion I’m writing.

What’s the last song that was stuck in your head?

Dark Horse by Katy Perry. It’s a song that is on the playlist for Abby and Logan’s story, Chasing Impossible, and I’m having a hard time getting it out of my head.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

“For with God nothing will be impossible.” ~ Luke 1:37 NKJV
