Interview with Kay Bratt, Author of Lucy in the Sky
16 Feb 2023
What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Lucy in the Sky?
As someone who had 3 siblings, I find the different personalities spread among them fascinating.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Lucy in the Sky, what would they be?
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and Beautiful Boy (Lennon).
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
My favorite genre is non-fiction, but I write fiction!
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
SO many! I just finished EVERY LAST DROP, a memoir of a very young woman suffering from terminal brain cancer. I love reading anything about the brain, and you’ll find that in one of my books, INTO THE BLUE, I explore that fascination within a character’s story.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
There’s a scene in this book where Lucy lets her guard down for a few minutes, and shows a surprising amount of affection and empathy. I cried writing it.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I have 4 yorkies and can’t seem to write without them around me, even though sometimes they are so needy they drive me crazy!
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
It is never too late to be what you might’ve been.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
That forgiveness and healing is always possible.
