Interview with Keenan Powell, Author of The Millionaire
30 Jan 2024
What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Millionaire?
I wanted to explore the reasons why people file lawsuits and how their lives are changed if they lose.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Millionaire, what would they be?
Maureen’s theme song would be “I am Woman.”
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Psychological thrillers are my favorite books to read and write.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
“Testimony” by Scott Turow, “The Marsh King’s Daughter” by Karen Dionne, and “The Housemaid” by Freida Mc Fadden.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The wake. After a funeral, people who shared grief decompress and reveal more of themselves to each other than they would do in every day life.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I have a selection of action figures on my windowsill to keep me company which include Severus Snape, Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes, General Leia, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and the Maltese Falcon.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Door closes, window opens.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
The importance of owning your truth.
