What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Remember Pompeii (The Wanshiqi Trilogy Book 1)?
I took a trip to Italy in February 2011 and spent a day in Pompeii. They were such a cool civilization and to wander through remnants of what was and to see the utter devastation that happened there. Well, it stayed with me. When I was writing the novel, I knew Kali had a huge secret that no one knew. She’s a few thousand years old. I started thinking about things that people think they know about. We all know what happened in Pompeii. Vesuvius erupted and encased the city in lava and ash. But what if there was another truth that no one knew? What if only Kali knew that truth?
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Remember Pompeii (The Wanshiqi Trilogy Book 1), what would they be?
Here’s a Pinterest board with the music I listened to when writing RP
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Paranormal usually with a mystery. Indeed it is my favorite to write. I love building a mystery with something magical afoot.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
A.L. Knorr: A Blossom at Midnight, Stephanie Burgis: Scales and Sensibility, Kate Moseman: Silver Spells, Nellie Steele: Letter to a Duchess, and so many more I am dying to read!
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I think the opening scene was one of my favorites—It has to set the tone for the entire book. I spent the most time imagining it in my head before I wrote it.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I like to write with a shih tzu in my lap. It’s soothing and helps me center myself. The pups love it too.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Live the life you want. I stop often and ask myself if this is what I want and if it isn’t, I make changes.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
That it is easy to take the wrong lessons away from events in our lives and they can lead you to a future you don’t want.
