What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Caught Looking?
When I started thinking about this series, the idea for this book came first, but the way the series unfolded, it ended up being the last book in the series. I thought what if a college baseball player went to play summer collegiate ball but fell for the girl who lived at his host house. The idea had merit, but then I increased the tension by making the host be his coach and a strict preacher.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Caught Looking, what would they be?
I don’t usually think of songs for my books, but Don’t Matter by Akon would be the main theme song. It doesn’t matter who or what people say, Dalton will always have Cassie’s back. These two couldn’t be any different and yet are totally made for each other.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Romance, romance, and did I mention romance? I started out writing young adult because I wrote books for my daughter, but she grew up and I switched to writing what my heart likes.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
I don’t even want to look at my TBR pile. Working full time outside of writing, I have limited time to read, which is a shame. But it’s also the reason my kindle is loaded with books yearning to be read.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I loved the scene when Dalton helps carry a Victorian Chesterfield chaise. Two things occur in that scene. The old lady flirting with Dalton cracks me up, and this is the first time the walls come down and they can be themselves around each other.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
No. I write when I can steal time. In the morning before work. During lunch. Cafe shops for a work break I shouldn’t take. Any window of time, I’m usually writing.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Years ago, I was at the bookstore looking for stocking stuffers for my children. On a bookmark, a shortened quote, “Never, never, never quit” from Winston Churchill stood out to me. Needless to say, each child received that bookmark, and I have repeatedly reminded them of his words. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t live by that motto myself.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
Fight for yourself and for the one you love.
