Tell us a little about your new release, Impossible Love?
The first book in the Unforeseen Destiny series, Impossible Love is a stand-alone new adult romance with a splash of added humor. The main setting takes place in Kauai, but Kayla and Kai’s romance isn’t the typical love story. They face real-life challenges and have to fight through those challenges to be together. I’m absolutely in love with Kai and feel that Kayla brought out his best.
What’s on your writing desk?
I float about the house taking my laptop with me, so that’s a hard question to answer. Currently, I’m sitting at my dining room table, so a table runner and candle centerpiece occupies the space.
What’s rocking your world this month?
Honestly, it’s my kids. My daughter graduated from college and is back home for two months before she moves out permanently. It’s amazing to see her take the next step in her life. My son obtains his driver’s license this month, so my nerves are a bit frazzled.
If you had an extra hour each day, how would you spend it?
Shamelessly, I would spend it writing. I work full-time with the business I run and those hours spill into the evening when I’m home. Any extra time, I find myself writing or doing some work on the author side. I always wish for more time to write.
What books do you find yourself returning to again and again?
Romance. Always romance. I’ve been trying to expand my reach, but I always return to romance. I have to have some level of romance in all the books I read. My favorite author is Colleen Hoover. I think I’ve read Ugly Love about ten times.
Is there anything you miss about being a nurse?
Patients. I miss the interaction with the patients. I came in contact with some really nice people in the fifteen years of practicing. I mainly worked in the Operating Room as a circulating nurse, so my interaction with people was limited. Then the last place I worked, I floated between the Operating Room, Phase I, and Phase II Recovery. There were a few patients I followed through to their discharge. I met quite a few wholesome individuals that way. I also miss being able to teach them how to care for themselves and make life changing decisions to better their way of living.
What scene in Impossible Love was your favorite to write?
There are so many scenes I enjoyed writing, but my favorite? Yeah, it would have to be their first love scene. I view it as a pivotal part of the book. Kayla hasn’t felt connected to anyone until she meets Kai. At first, it’s only a physical attraction that she has a hard time understanding. As life becomes more challenging, Kai is always there for her, and when they finally surrender themselves to each other, their connection deepens on another level.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
About fourteen years ago, I was at the bookstore looking for stocking stuffers for my children. On a bookmark, a shortened quote, “Never, never, never quit” from Winston Churchill stood out to me. Needless to say, each child received that bookmark, and I have repeatedly reminded them of his words. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t live by that motto myself.
