Interview with Kristi Avalon, Author of The Billionaire’s Dare (Billionaire Bodyguard Series Book 7)

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Billionaire’s Dare (Billionaire Bodyguard Series Book 7)?

Adam is honestly my favorite hero and has been with me for many years. In fact, he first came to me in a dream. In the dream, I walked toward the dining room of a huge Victorian mansion. Clustered around the dining room table were handsome faces most of whom I recognized from books past, present, and future. All hanging out, drinking coffee, waiting for me to write their story. One guy stood out—when you read this book, you’ll understand why! I can still hear his leather jacket rustle as he turned piercing green eyes to me and said: “I’ll wait until you’re ready.” I’ve wanted to tell Adam’s story for a long time. I’m honored he chose me to bring his book into the world.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Billionaire’s Dare (Billionaire Bodyguard Series Book 7), what would they be?

Wait, just ONE song? This book has a whole 42-song playlist! But probably the song that fits him best is “Fearless” by Jackson Dean. Marissa’s song would be “Something Just Like This” by Coldplay.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love writing romance—it’s my purpose and my passion. That’s also my favorite genre to read.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

I’m probably the only person who hasn’t read Fourth Wing. It’s at the top of my TBR pile…soon!

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

It’s a tie: the first scene I loved writing most is in the first chapter where the hero and heroine meet. Adam faces his fear of being judged or feeling “dumb” at his first tutoring session to help him work through his dyslexia and improve his reading skills. Thinking of it now fills my heart with compassion and love for this guy – and the strong, awesome girl who steals his heart. Second favorite scene to write is the final scene of the book – action, suspense, and those three little words demonstrated heroically.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

When the weather’s nice, I love to sit outside and write longhand for an hour. Then I come in and type my notes into my laptop and my sketches develop into fully formed content. It’s magic!

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

“Follow your bliss. Find where it is, and don’t be afraid to follow it.” – Joseph Campbell

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

I dedicate this book to everyone out there suffering from an invisible illness or disability. It’s not easy managing life when you’re privately struggling. Watching Adam’s transformation melted my heart with every turn of the page. I hope readers enjoy this hero’s journey and feel uplifted by the redeeming power of true love.
