Interview with Kristi Rose, Author of Dodged A Bullet
25 May 2023
What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Dodged A Bullet?
I work in special education and I wanted to create a character who had a special education background – she’s dyslexic- and I wanted her to be scrappy and clever.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Dodged A Bullet, what would they be?
Can’t hold us By Macklemore or Sunshine by OneRepublic.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Mysteries or Horror – I love to write mysteries and am scared to write horror 🙂
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
Shutter, Devouring Grey (to pre-read for my kid), Paper Ghost, Westing Game, and Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
There is a standoff in the book- but with cars so it plays out like a bumper car situation. My girl Sam doesn’t blink. She goes for it.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
Because I work full time at a day job my quirks are to write anywhere, anyway- Paper scraps, dictation, and my computer.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Believe and take action.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
That my characters are fun and funny!
