Interview with LARS, Author of Fortress: Humanity’s Last Outpost
04 Oct 2023
What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Fortress: Humanity’s Last Outpost?
I was on a long road trip last year, and for a while all I could see was mountains. As I drove, I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be cool if one of these mountains was a long-forgotten Fortress? And from there on out, the story kept snowballing into what it is today.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Fortress: Humanity’s Last Outpost, what would they be?
Similar to Duel of the Fates – a symphonic piece.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Science Fiction and Fantasy, I can’t have one without the other.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
Infinite by Jeremy Robinson, Shards of Earth by Jon Gwynne, and Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson, in that order.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
There’s a scene in the book where they’re enjoying “old food from earth” that really made smile on the re-read.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I need to listen to movie soundtracks throughout the whole writing process. In the case of this book, it was the soundtrack from the movie, Interstellar.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Be the best version of yourself.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
If they take anything from my book, I think the final chapter is worth remembering.
