Interview with Lauren Blakely, author of Best Laid Plans

What can you tell us about your new release, Best Laid Plans?

Best Laid Plans is a best friends to lovers romance meets lessons in seduction with a twist! The twist is the heroine wants the lessons to be, ahem, “hypothetical.’ We’ll see how that works!

Which book from your childhood or teenage years has stuck with you as an adult?

A River Runs Through It by Norman Maclean is my favorite book. It has so many great, yet subtle life lessons in it. True words to live by. My favorite is this one: “For it is true we can seldom help those closest to us. Either we don’t know what part of ourselves to give or, more often than not, the part we have to give is not wanted. And so it is those we live with and should know who elude us. But we can still love them – we can love completely without complete understanding.”

Who is your favorite fictional character from literature?

Crookshanks from Harry Potter is pretty cool. But seriously, I’m a Harry Potter kind of gal. That story deserves every ounce of success and acclaim, and Harry is the wonderful reluctant hero, who embraces his fate.

Do you listen to anything while you write? If so, what’s your audio of choice?

I can only listen to music when I need to drown out conversations, like at a coffee shop or an airplane. When I do, I usually listen to Broadway show tunes, like Hamilton, or songs from Matt Mathanson. I love him!
