Interview with Maggie Carpenter, Author of Malibu Heat

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Malibu Heat?

I lived in Malibu and worked in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera. Though Malibu Heat is a work of fiction, certain characters and situations were inspired by some of what I saw and heard. I have enough eye-popping memories to write half a dozen Malibu Heat books, and at least two more will follow. The Director’s Daughter will be next, then Acting Up.

I loved my time in Tinsel Town, but the business and the environment have changed a great deal since I was there. Writing Malibu Heat I was able to relive those amazing days, and it was a blast! I’m sure the same will be true of The Director’s Daughter and Acting Up.

I know this is a cliche, but I hope you enjoy Malibu Heat as much as I enjoyed writing it. It really was a labor of love.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Any genre of romantic suspense.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

None. I’m too busy writing to read.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Tony, the sexy tennis pro, lives next door to an Oscar winning actor whose daughter is impossible. When Tony takes her in hand—that was fun!

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

YES. I must start with a cup of tea, and I always have a second and third.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Never give up.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

There really are HEA’s.
