What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Reckless Rescue?
This is book two in the Origin Story series. I first dreamed up the idea of five friends going through an adventure with aliens way back when I was 16. At that time I was just daydreaming of a situation with my friends. Then I updated the idea and began developing the series.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Reckless Rescue, what would they be?
Great question! As a musician, I love to listen to music while I write, and for the Origin Story series, I listened to a lot of electronic music, especially drum & bass, or dubstep. I even created a public YouTube playlist to share with my readers. While I don’t have a specific song for each character, one of my favorites is “Fatso” by Metrik. I always picture the aliens in the story dancing to it.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Yes! I have always loved SciFi, though I read a bit of everything these days.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
Too many to list here! But here’s a few: The Dispossessed by Ursula K. LeGuin, Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames, and Pattern Recognition by William Gibson.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I’m a sucker for the quiet moments that speak volumes in any story. There’s one or two in The Reckless Rescue.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I’m allergic to cats (though I like them) so no cats. I think the one quirk is that I start writing exactly at 9pm every night. If I don’t, I feel like I didn’t do something right.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
On my website is a quote from one of my favorite writer/philosophers, Henry David Thoreau. He wrote “The Universe is wider than our views of it.” I think that’s a great quote because it is both exciting and humbling.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
Three letters – F U N. This is pure entertainment, though there are themes. I just want readers to finish the book and think, “what a fun read.”
