What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Pay It Backward?
Pedro has many of the same struggles many teens have: excessive drinking, gaming, revenge, and hopelessness. I wanted to show, through a fast-paced, non preachy story that when we ask God for help, when we speak His Word into our circumstances, outcomes can change for the better.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Pay It Backward, what would they be?
In The Air Tonight from Miami Vice ~ Phil Collins.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
All YA fiction and books on street photography ~ my passion!
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
If We Break Up by Cheyanne Young, Think Like A Street Photographer by Matt Stuart, and The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L. Walther.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I was sitting at a picnic table under a Papaya tree in Costa Rica, gazing at a toucan rip apart a papaya. I looked back down at my keyboard and the most amazing plot twist, one I hadn’t planned, seemed to write itself! I was kinda detached, watching my fingers fly across the keyboard, my eyes bugging out as the scene unfolded. It was a brilliant moment! Right then, I was hooked on storytelling.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I am Queen of Photoshop, and am always photoshopping peoples faces to make them more amazing than they are.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
#NeverStopExploring
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
To remember the scenes where Sara called on God or help in dire moments, and He answered, changing outcomes as only He is able.
