Interview with Michelle Hercules, Author of Lost Horizon
24 Jun 2019
What can you tell us about your new release, Lost Horizon?
Lost Horizon is a space fantasy romance retelling of the Wizard of Oz set in a futuristic world. It’s Star Wars meets the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy is a space pilot cadet who ends up on a planet called Oz. Expect to see the novel’s beloved characters reimagined in unpredictable ways in this coming of age, epic adventure with lots of twists and turns, magic, and of course romance. Lost Horizon is a slow burn reverse harem romance.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I’ve always been an avid reader, but never in a million years, I thought I could write a book. My writing career began as a fun project, but once I started writing, I couldn’t stop.
What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?
Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
J. K. Rowling. I’d ask if she knew from the beginning all the twists and turns of the series.
What’s your favorite thing about writing?
The ability to create new worlds and characters readers can fall in love (or hate). It’s all about the experience.
What is a typical day like for you?
Take my daughter to school, sometimes hit the gym, and then write the rest of the day.
What scene in Lost Horizon was your favorite to write?
My favorite scene to write was when Dorothy’s space ship crashed in Oz.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Never get too comfortable. Keep moving.
