Interview with Misu Loy, Author of Hunted
30 Jan 2024
What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Hunted?
My stories come to me at bedtime as I’m falling asleep. One night, I saw a human baby hatching out of a dragon egg. It felt like a dangerous secret, and everything grew from there.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Hunted, what would they be?
Raine Chambrin’s theme song is definitely “Not Strong Enough” by Apocalyptica. Each time I hear that song, it sounds straight from his poor, agonized heart.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I read what I write! Romance, always. Enemies-to-lovers and grumpy-sunshine are what I live for.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
My next reads will probably be Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver and Stephanie Garber’s Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I really enjoyed Raine and Sidian’s first meeting. Actually, that entire chapter was a blast.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
Hmm. I don’t know if it’s a quirk, but I must have a very quiet atmosphere. When I’m writing, I sink into the story as if I’m there alongside my characters. It’s very disorienting to be in the midst of a deadly skirmish inside my head, and then hear a leaf blower kick on next door!
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
I find nothing more satisfying than an exquisite love story. So instead of a motto, here is my absolute favorite romantic quote. It is from the Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and I dream of writing something half as perfect: “I would recognize you in total darkness, were you mute and I deaf. I would recognize you in another lifetime entirely, in different bodies, different times. And I would love you in all of this, until the very last star in the sky burnt out into oblivion.”
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I hope readers feel like they’ve made a friend. That Raine Chambrin has become as real to them as he is to me. And that their hearts are a little bit bigger by knowing and loving him.
