Interview with Mónica Béjar Latonda, Author of Eight Mondays

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Eight Mondays?

I started to write a non-fictional book about grief as that’s what I was living at the time. The plot came in really strong and I could not ignore it. Therefore I put it in a fictional form.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Eight Mondays, what would they be?

That’s an unfair question as the main character’s theme song would be a Spanish song from the 80 that nobody knows.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Post-Apocalyptic Novels, exactly the same.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

The third volume of Hugh Howey Wool Series. The Power by Naomi Alderman.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Oddly enough the last one.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

You should see my wall: All kinds of index cards, drawings, maps, photos…

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

There is nothing permanent, except change.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Take care of each other.

Mónica Béjar Latonda is the author of the new book Eight Mondays: Because Every Day is Monday in the Apocalypse
