What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Girl Unplugged Teen Survival Guide?
Some years ago I authored an award-winning, best-selling teen series of 7 books called “GirlForce”. I know this age group very well and I felt it was time for a new book that addressed the comparison culture of social media, the challenges of peer pressure, and gives practical, relatable advice about self-love and body image.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Girl Unplugged Teen Survival Guide, what would they be?
Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Classic novels like Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” or George Eliot’s “Middlemarch”.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
“Psykhe” by Kate Forsyth and “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk, which I’ve been meaning to read for ages.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
In Girl Unplugged it was all about getting the tone right for the girls who will pick it up and read it.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I love to have my two dachshunds at my feet and a cup of steaming hot chai at my desk when I start writing in the morning.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
The mantra for my publishing company Go2Guru Publishing and my community Facebook group Self-Love Club is “Feel the Love”.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
The message of ALL my books, including Girl Unplugged, is self-love. I teach this path to self-embrace in everything I do and write.
