What can you tell us about your new release, The Pawn?
The Pawn kicks off a brand new dark and sexy contemporary series for me! It’s about a young woman who quits college to take care of her sick father, who’s about to lose their house unless she sells something worth a lot of money… her virginity.
Name a book that you feel has impacted your significantly. Why was it so impactful?
I love To Have and to Hold by Patricia Gaffney. It’s a historical romance, and not that recent, but I think it’s one of the best dark romances ever written! I also loved the relatively new All the Ugly and Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood. Basically, I love things dark, lush and taboo.
Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest. What would you want to ask?
Wow, now I want this to be my job. It’s too hard to choose. I want to hear from all my favorite authors, but mostly I want us to be in a room with lots of wine. Let’s see – Sylvia Day? I think I’d ask what she’s working on next *evil grin*.
What’s on your writing desk?
Some silver pawn-shaped keychains (for swag giveaways), dark chocolate covered almonds, and a book of poetry by Rupi Kaur.
BAM. You’re a superhero. What’s your superpower?
All the knowledge in all the world. I would literally be a Know It All!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
In the end, only kindness matters. Though I’m not sure that’s advice so much as song lyrics…
What scene in The Pawn was your favorite to write?
I loved writing a scene near the end, that makes the title and cover so much more relevant. I mean, it’s already relevant at the beginning, but by the end it’s downright dirty.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Mostly I try to write the books I love, the books I need to write. Because I think there are readers who need them written.
