What can you tell us about your new release, Christmas Actually?
Christmas Actually is a collection of 11 all-new holiday romcom novellas by bestselling and award-winning authors. This project has been such a joy to work on this year. I love writing and being an author, but by its very nature, it can be a somewhat lonely profession. These past months, while we’ve all been spending time apart to keep our loved ones safe, working on a group project with authors I respect and admire so much has been a wonderful experience. I hope readers love what we’ve put together!
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I grew up as an only child and spend loads of time reading. Books have always been very special to me and being an author has always been my dream career.
What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?
Whoa, this is a tough question! Some of my all-time favorites are Little Women, Pride & Prejudice and Bridget Jones’s Diary.
Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
My first guest would be Sophie Kinsella because she is one of my very favorite modern authors. Her books are hilarious, so I know we would have an amazing conversation, no matter what we talked about. I would probably beg her to let me co-write a book with her. Ha!
What’s your favorite thing about writing?
Seeing what started as just a glimmer of an idea turn into a fully realized book.
What is a typical day like for you?
I write a lot in the mornings. I like to get up early, have coffee while I watch about 30 minutes of Hallmark Channel and then get to work! Around lunch time I will usually take a break to walk my dogs around the neighborhood.
What scene from Christmas Actually was your favorite to write?
The novella I wrote for Christmas Actually is called A Merry Royal Layover and it’s kind of like Love Actually meets royal romance. I had so much fun with it, and it’s based on a real-life experience I had during a flight delay when I was stuck in a first-class airport lounge with someone who might or might not have been Prince Harry. I documented the entire layover on my Facebook page, and going back and reading those original posts and comments was a hoot. So the part of the story when the heroine first realizes she might be sitting next to a royal prince was definitely my favorite.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
“You can’t win if you don’t enter.” This is a quote from my days of showing dogs, and it applies to all facets of life. You can’t reach your goals unless you do the work, put yourself out there and really go for it.
