What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Blue Guitar Pick (Fire and Ice Duet Book 1)?
As sad as it sounds, I wrote the first draft of this book while going through a relationship breakup. I hadn’t written anything substantial since my school days, but one day I began writing a short story to escape the chaos that was my personal life. That short story then grew into a full manuscript. That manuscript then remained a secret for many years until I had the courage to edit it, share it, and edit and edit again. However, personal life aside, I guess the inspiration for the book came from my love of 80s rock and the turbulent lives of rock stars and their fans.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Blue Guitar Pick (Fire and Ice Duet Book 1), what would they be?
For Emily this is easy, ‘You Ruin Me’ by The Veronicas. Ryan is a bit harder. ‘Always’ by Bon Jovi springs to mind, or maybe ‘The Flame’ by Cheap Trick.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love horror stories which is quite different from what I write. There is nothing like a spine-chilling story to get your heart racing. But in researching my chosen genre I am becoming quite partial to a well written romance.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
‘The Possession’ by Ambrose Ibsen, ‘The First 21’ by Nikki Sixx & ‘Repeat’ by Kylie Scott.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The concert scene at the beginning of the book is probably my favourite. It takes you back to rock concerts of the 1980s that can still be relevant today. I also love a scene much later in the book when Ryan is telling Emily everything that has happened in his life since they last met.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I need complete silence to write, although I can tolerate the 4 snoring dogs that are usually spread around my office.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Not really, but my father did tell me to never trust anyone who asks who tells you to trust them. It’s usually a huge red flag.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
Dreams can come true.
