Interview with Tyler Nicholas, Author of Legends of Aidris: Rise to Power

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Legends of Aidris: Rise to Power?

The idea behind the story came randomly for me. I would say reading Game of Thrones and Wheel of Time is what gave me some of the ideas. I was writing a different book series at the time (that I finished before starting this one), so I sat on this one for a couple of years and in that time, I kept getting more and more ideas for the story that I made sure to make notes of and here we are!

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

This really depends on my mood at the time. If I was asked this question 3-4 years ago, I would have told you sci-fi/fantasy like Star Wars and Halo. Nowadays, my favorite genre is medieval fantasy and I am always looking for new series to read. For now, it is the same genre I am writing!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

I recently finished Jim Butcher’s Codex Alera series and I am currently searching for my next fantasy series to read. I will hopefully find one in the next few weeks.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

This is a hard one. I would say one of my favorites was the scene when Talon takes his throne and a scene he has with Besurlde later on in the book.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Not really. The closest I would say is listening to rock music while writing or nothing at all. Don’t think that is a quirk but it’s the closest I have.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Tough question to answer. I would say a philosophy I live by would be fixing things that make me unhappy. I always strive to keep myself happy and if I am unhappy about something, to fix it. Nothing specific to writing though.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Oof, this is another hard question. Other than the typical “I hope they enjoy it and read the next one”, I would say I hope they remember the characters. That was the best answer I could think of!
