What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Future King?
It’s about redemption. It’s about second chances. The story of King Arthur and Merlin has always ended in tragedy with Arthur fated to die after the Battle of Camlann. The legend of the “Once and Future King” I felt was left unfinished. This book, and ultimately this series, picks up after that tragedy and changes the story into optimism…and ultimately redemption of the hero.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Future King, what would they be?
For Merlin I’d say it would be “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake.
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Definitely fantasy. There’s so much left to the imagination.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
“The Ash Princess” by Laura Sebastian
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
Chapter 5. Merlin in Avalon. It’s full of imagination, magic, sacrifice, and hope. It’s a story within a story.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
My favorite keyboard and my lucky mug full of cold Mountain Dew. It gets the imagination flowing!
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
Live and let live. If everyone does this, the world would be magical.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
Pick yourself back up. Dust yourself off. Try again. Learn from your mistakes. There’s the victory.
