Liveblog: Craziest Things about the New 50 Shades of Grey Book

The new 50 Shades of Grey book comes out on June 18th. There’s a ton of buzz about it already, as well as a couple of crazy things. We’ll be compiling all of the interesting tidbits about the book and the release (there are a bunch already!) through release date.

The Manuscript Got Stolen

50 Shades Fans are some of the most dedicated fans out there, so it’s not surprising that the book was stolen from the Random House office in Kent, England. While many were afraid that the book would be leaked, GREY is still under wraps and set for the same release date. Read More ↦

The #AskELJames Twitter Chat Fiasco

If you weren’t hiding under a rock today, twitter was a-buzz about the hashtag #AskELJames. This chat started as a way for EL to chat with her fans but turned into twitter throwing shade at the 50 Shades Queen.

It’s already #1 on Amazon

Within 24 hours of being announced for pre-order, Grey was #1 on the books bestsellers list. EL James pushed out famed authors Harper Lee and Stephen King out of the top pre-order spots at the time.

The mixed reviews are pouring in

Bryony Gordon of The Telegraph calls Grey “Mr. Darcy with nipple clamps”, while the New York Daily News thinks Christian is “a whiney wimp.”

Someone is reading Grey and live-tweeting about it

Buzzfeed UK Editor Scott Bryan is “reading the new 50 Shades of Grey… so you don’t have to” and tweeting the “worst” lines from Grey. While most of the lines are too explicit to post here, check out his twitter to see all of the (graphic) content.

She’s following in Stephenie Meyer’s footsteps…again

It’s no secret that 50 Shades of Grey started out as a Twilight fan fic, and now James is taking another note from Meyer. In 2008, Meyer released a version of Twilight from Edward’s point of view called “Midnight Sun.” Hmmm, this sounds familiar. While Meyer planned to release the novel, the copy was leaked on the internet so she stopped writing Midnight Sun and unofficially published the most complete draft on her website.

There might be a Grey movie in the works

Even though the plotline for Grey and 50 Shades of Grey are exactly the same, there are talks that a Grey movie is in the pipeline. However the original actors, Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson, have not confirmed their involvement in the movie so at least that will  be different. Read More ↦
