What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Shakespeare´s Vengeance?
The story was first considered for a play. It was called “In the Name of Theater” and was meant to be a tragicomedy blending mystery and thriller. I envisioned a cult devoted to the god Dionysus, organized by a mysterious fraternity of Thespians, as a perfect setting for honoring the tradition of theater, bringing diverse dramatic elements to intertwine. Later, it became a play entitled “Shakespeare’s Vengeance.” The new title drew more attention to the plot’s Shakespearian connections, adding to its suspense and intrigue. Since all characters have a protagonist posture, it became increasingly challenging and enticing to delve into each one’s background, which was only possible through the landscape of a full novel. The play has been acclaimed by both audiences and critics in its debut in Rio de Janeiro, and now it is the turn for its enriched novel version to gains its public.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Shakespeare´s Vengeance, what would they be?
Noir Jazz songs; Louis Armstrong’s “A Kiss to build a dream on.”
What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I mostly enjoy reading cross-genre fiction, particularly stories with witty twists and a touch of sarcastic humor. As for my writing, whether plays, novels, or film scripts, the inspiration from a theme or plot typically comes before my decision about the genre in which my story would unfold..
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
I’m currently reading the complete collection of Anton Chekhov short stories.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I’d say the very ending, which took my soul away.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I wouldn’t say it’s a quirk, but rather an odd technique. I have the habit of creating a story after coming up with a title. It goes like this: a title, for some intangible reason and out of the blue, strikes my mind in such a way that it inspires me to work on a full story behind it. It’s like holding onto a lamp in the darkness without previously knowing where to direct its glow. Eventually, the unfolded story matches its title.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
I’m very fond of Stoicism. A quote by Seneca is among my favorites: “If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
The absurdity of fiction is no match to that of reality.
